To Those Who May Be Interested . . .

This blog is closing at the end of October.

I want to thank everyone that has contributed to it since 2004.

From this point forward I'll be flying solo, as I did in the first few months of its existence.

Beginning in January, myself and some former contributors will be starting a new venture on Tumblr; hopefully not too similar to this one, but one which might have a familiar ring to it.

Thanks for visiting; the few who still do.

I'm sorry to hear that this blog is going to close, such a fantastic job so far.

Very good luck with the new venture on Tumblr, Tom.

You've done a damned fine job, Tom, you oughta be proud. Is it going for good, or will it live on as a relict to visit? At any rate, I've enjoyed this site immensely, and I'm sure others have as well.

I've enjoyed the site for a long time, but I can understand the need to move on and try new things. Best wishes.

No site ever moved me like this one. Simply the best.

Thank you for ten years of wonder, and a thrilling privilege. . . .

Thank you; this space has been sui generis.

I would hope that you could continue, but if not, at least you’ve put a stake in the ground which will be there as long as Blogger, which I suspect includes my lifetime. Thanks again.

What the other commenters said - I can completely understand the desire to move on to a new project, but this one will be sorely missed.

Please let us all know the Tumblr address once it is up and running.

This site is the only blog i visit nearly every day. It has inspired me many times. Provided me with images for diy-soundtrack-covers to dozens and dozens of friends for many Christmases, has pushed me to strive for pantheonic greatness... You have made something beautiful and i thank you, sir.

walterbiggins said...

Tom (and company), thanks so much for this truly unique, always surprising, and deeply wonderful blog. Even with the advent of Tumblr and Pinterest, there was nothing quite like Gunslinger out there, and it provided more inspiration than you could ever know. Best wishes on whatever comes next.

BR said...

I can only echo what others have already said - a pity to see such a consistently fascinating & inspiring blog disappear. Best of luck with the Tumblr venture. If it's even half as great as Gunslinger you're sure to pick up 100s of followers.

Benjamin Russell said...

I think I first found this blog through a link to Tricky: Scenes from a Life, but I stayed once I saw Salvador Dali walking an anteater on a leash. So, not that many years, perhaps, but it has been a staple of my daily browsing, and I'm still working my way slowly through some Radio Free Gunslinger episodes, which were consistently excellent. I will miss your public service, and look forward to your next project.

Dr. Stockton said...

Thanks, this was a great site.

Robert Fiore said...

So have we heard the last Radio Free Gunslinger as well?

You have doled out an amazing amount of pleasure. I've enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks.

Mike said...

When you say the blog is closing, do you mean you just won't be posting to it anymore, or are you deleting the content? I hope you'll leave it up, because it's quite the trove.

Thanks for all your work over the years - much appreciated!

OH man, this is a bummer. What the hell will I do now when I am pretending to work on my computer? Thanks so much for all the wonderful posts over the years. I didn't follow it in 2004 but when I found it, I slowly went back through all the old posts and have now read them all. I hope you will leave this standing for those who want to come back and check it out from time to time.

October will turn out to be The End of another Era. I get sick & sadly unoperatable whenever these times occur. We're gonna miss you when you go! Don't recall when or how I found Gunslinger, but it cost me at least a week's worth of late nights traipsing back through to page 1. Such wit and irreverence! Came by at least twice a week most times, and googled many a name after visiting to delve further into the famous, the lost and forgotten, the seriously flawed and the mighty now fallen.

An earlier frequently-visited blog, J-Walk, shut down a couple years back in favour of a Google+ portal. I'll be watching for you on Tumblr.

Warm regards,

Glenn Allen

Dear Tom,

Words cannot express my sadness at seeing the end of the Gunslinger. I have been coming here pretty much every day for the last umpteen years. Your site has always felt to me like home on the web.

I'm sorry more people aren't on the same wavelength - maybe part of it is a generational thing, so for the increasing number of post-boomers, there ain't so much to grok. Yes, generational.

Speaking for myself, there is nowhere else, no other station in the hollow snark of cyber-space that even approaches the mix of quiet thought, humor, artfulness, infinitesimally-shaded perspective, love of life, and melancholy that has been the sole province of the Gunslinger.

Thanks for everything - I look forward to your next site.

Take care!
