The Explanation
(for those who require one)

And, of course, that is what all of this is -- all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs -- that song, endlesly reincarnated -- born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 -- same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."

Molson? That's gotta be in Montreal. Can anyone spot Leonard Cohen?

I don't think it's Montreal. That kid in the front row wouldn't be allowed to wear that Leafs shirt for starters.

I see what you mean John, that'd be one brave kid. But seeing as the Forum date on the tour came right after the Maple Leaf Gardens show, he might have got that souvenir in Toronto and wore it in Montreal. Besides, I'd think Toronto would be a Labatt town, Molson is a Montreal-based company, and is also owner of the Canadiens, who play in the Forum.

You're probably right. 'Facetious' is my middle name, after all. I'd love to see a larger version of this image, though. So many faces!
Is that Wallace Shawn sitting near the front left? ;-)

Naw. That's a beardless Allen Ginsberg, who was on the tour and did absolutely nothing apart from one or two readings at different venues.

Thanks SPB, now I can make out Roger McGuinn and Ramblin' Jack. And I can see in that row of kids, there's one on the far left wearing a Montreal Canadiens T-shirt and a big grin, and he's getting the stink-eye from the kid at the other end in the Toronto Maple Leafs shirt, priceless.

No sign of Leonard though, must be off somewhere being mysterious.

Ah, that's great! Thanks SPB.
