The Explanation
(for those who require one)

And, of course, that is what all of this is -- all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs -- that song, endlesly reincarnated -- born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 -- same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."

I do posts in "threes" sometimes. The last time I did it was December 10th, which you can look up in the archives on the sidebar. That also had a "Lunatic Fringe" post. It was 1. Kris Kristofferson and Isabella Huppert for "They Were Collaborators" with HEAVEN'S GATE, then 2. "Seminal Image" from GATES OF HEAVEN and 3. "Lunatic Fringe" with Marshall Applewhite, leader of the HEAVEN'S GATE cult.

I've done them other times too, and on my other blogs but honestly, Arthur, you're the first one who's ever mentioned it. Thank god somebody finally noticed! It's not easy doing neurotic post connections and having it go unrecognized.

Hmmmm...did you notice that Guy Ballard and Marshall Applewhite share the same head? Just slightly different degrees of weight loss.

Hmmmmm...

I did notice a similarity. I was looking through pics of cult leaders and several have that... look. It's hard to describe but you can see it in both of their pics.

Maybe there's an unbroken paternal chain of cult leaders going back to Colonial America that we can construct some ridiculous conspiracy around, unless that's already happened.

Original line-up love. What could have been if Florence lived on...

Poor Florence, and she looks the happiest of the 3, in this picture.
