The Explanation
(for those who require one)

And, of course, that is what all of this is -- all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs -- that song, endlesly reincarnated -- born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 -- same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."

I guess she merits mention.

But I'll tell you this -- she's successfully joined many folks, left and right. Jointly hating her.

I'd still kinda like to bend her over a desk somewhere, but I digress. . . .

Is this the best Americans can offer to themselves???

Pretty girl. Okay, that takes care of the skin deep part.

Oh dear, where do we start?

The fabulist former half-term Governor of the North Pole. Profoundly ignorant of the essential workings of the world around her. Borderline pathological in her resentment of the over-educated urban "elites" that have created our confusingly modern, cosmopolitan culture. Maniacally cavalier in her disregard for the actual, objective truth about things. Bullshitter, par excellence. The most incoherent off-the-cuff public speaker . . . of All Time. Weirdly crypto-feminist in her short leather skirts and knee-high go-go boots. Fiercely oblivious to the lines of demarcation between authentic stateswomanship and mere celebrity. Deeply unserious. Astonishingly disconnected from even the remotest sense of history. Proudly incurious about the diversity of human culture and human nature. Self-absorbed in her own gratuitous, serendipitous elevation to the status of cultural icon. Frighteningly indifferent to the distinctions between, and the separation of, private religious expression and the essentially secular public sphere. Purveyor of the politics of cultural identity. Pure, unalloyed emotion. Dumber than dumber than dumb. Babelicious.

And the next President of the United States of America and Leader of the Free World. Dear God in heaven, help us!

Okay, well that's pretty much a consensus. Admittedly a small sampling but still, I sense a trend.

the baseless, overwrought hatred, obsession, and angst she engenders in the likes of pompous asses like john above is so amusing and delicious. thanks, john

Baseless? uh oh, someone's ox is being gored. lol.

Baseless?
In what respect, Charlie?

Steve said...

Archer...quite a few of us in Europe are sh*tting ourselves in case she ends up an elected PRESIDENT of the most powerful nation on the Planet.

Baseless? Nah. She's unaware of the rest of the World. I don't find that delicious or amusing and neither would you if you lived in the rest of the World.

I should add
in that photo
Ms Palin looks to be gaining some first hand experience with the Bush Doctrine.

That picture shows someone who is self-satisfied of herself while unaware and ignorant of lots of things.

Scary.

See what John Cleese said about Sarah Palin:

Well, Sarah certainly elicits strong emotions. Pretty entertaining, in a low brow kind of way. In the meantime, I'm wondering how often contemporaneous images are posted here. This picture of Sarah seems oddly out of place.

That's a good start, John...

Sarah Palin: easy on the eyes, but light on the brain.

It's pretty interesting that the 2008 election produced two people whom the majority of us knew very little about, who burst upon the scene like a twister in the plains and acted as lightening rods for some of the vilest hatred and, at the same time, highest aspirations of so many Americans. I wonder, when the history books are written, what the future will make of all this with Palin and Obama, and how the two may be so inextricably linked in the minds of many, the Devil and the One to the Left, and a Goddess and the Devil to the Right. Maybe it all just shows how horribly polarized we've all gotten, how we will ascribe the basest motives to our opponents while ignoring the failings of our own side.

As for the picture, I see a pretty MILF modeling some winter gear, but exhibiting a decided lack of understanding of color coordination.

The mere sight of this woman is offensive.

Jesus--this idiot shows up everywhere. It's actually really frightening to see her mug on If Charlie Parker...Her popularity is a very sad comment on the intelligence of Americans. It scares the hell out of me to think of her as President. I can't imagine a one worse than George Bush. But Sarah Palin? Come on--how can anyone take her seriously? This is the result of the dumbing down of America.

Hear hear EfH!

Anyone see the movie Idiocracy? That's the direction we're headed if people like this get into the White House.(Notice I didn't use the word 'elected')

Headed, Chris? I'm afraid we're already there --
