The Explanation
(for those who require one)
And, of course, that is what all of this is -- all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs -- that song, endlesly reincarnated -- born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 -- same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."

What, they couldn't get Elmo Lincoln?
I think it was a wise decision to leave him at his Hollywood Forever residence. In fact, I can't exactly applaud the decision to get James Pierce up there in a loin cloth either.
At least -- and thank God -- it looks like the former Janes had enough sense to nix the whole deal.
Jim Pierce looks mighty grouchy up there in his loincloth. He was, as I recall, married to Burroughs' daughter. Perhaps he was calculating the royalties the Burroughs estate would earn from the TV show? I remember liking the show.
If my math is right, Ron Ely should be 72 now. So anatomically speaking, he's probably looking about like Weissmuller is here.
James Pierce? That's
Frank Barone! Holy crap!!!
yeeehaww..look'it all them Tarz'ns!
lol..Pierce looks like .."You mugs don't know how ta grip a vine!
Gordon Scott was my favorite TARZAN -- best Tarzan flicks ever: TARZAN'S GREATEST ADVENTURE (with Sean Connery as a bad guy) and TARZAN THE MAGNIFICENT (with Mahoney as a bad guy).
Where's Herman Brix?
Buster Crabbe is the highest profile no-show. Frankly I'm surprised they convinced those other three to show up.
Still banging on about Brando...he used to sign into hotels as Greystoke.
Dear old cheetah, (the original!) died a few days ago, late December 2011. He was about 80 years old..
