The Explanation
(for those who require one)

And, of course, that is what all of this is -- all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs -- that song, endlesly reincarnated -- born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 -- same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."

Robert:

Problem with that is . . . much like our Julie Christie series . . . every entry could be a 'Sex Ed' number also; there'd be no end to the double entries 'round these parts.

Vanwall said...

I'm a big fan of single entries, myself. Julie and Sophia could lead to triple and quadruple entries, just by themselves!

I think you is right about that, Rob.

This being a family (??) blog, I dare not comment further!

Marietta:

Ich bin nicht sicher, was Sie sagen. Meine Entschuldigungen!

The hell of it is, this is probably the 991st sexiest picture of Sophia Loren in existence. This is going to be looong Guide.

This is bowing to the (glorious) inevitable isn't it? Sophia Loren could be the patron saint of this blog.

When you print the famous one of her in the negligee (from the cover of Look, was it?), this blog is going to have a meltdown. Or at least, I will.
