I was 12 and home from school sick when I saw the Dave Garroway interview of SINA's G. Clifford Prout. I didn't realize it was a put-on, but thought he was pretty weird.
I knew Alan about ten years ago. A mutual friend used to host a series of parties up in Newtown, CT. We'd have impromptu jam sessions, and Alan was a damn good jazz drummer, not to mention a very funny recounteur. And he hit on every girl I brought to those parties.

An entire life dedicated to the art of the hoax. A true genius.
