what a fabulously instructive educator she was.

and she's still pretty cool, albeit no longer teaching me about sex . . . .

She was one of my first crushes before I had any idea what a crush was. I just knew that I wanted to watch her. For one thing (besides the obvious reasons such as legs a million miles long) she often looked as if, as in this picture, she was having fun.

She could beat me like a rented mule with that Hillerich & Bradsby all day long, if she was dressed like that.

Robert should get a cigar, the photo was taken while Ms. Newmar was appearing in a summer stock production of Damn Yankees.

She really had a way with a bat, man.

Elementary, my dear Watson. Gwen Verdon wears the same outfit on the cover of the Original Broadway Cast album. Julie has he bat in her hands, and the scarecrow is wearing a Yankee uniform.

Or anyway, pinstripes.

The obvious intelligence plus the knockout looks is what makes a truly sexy woman.
Barbara Feldon is another one.

I interviewed Julie at a memorabilia show about 12 years ago, talking with her for about 15 to 20 minutes. What a wonderfully gracious lady, as intelligent as she was beautiful. She now has a Web site, http://www.julienewmarwrites.com/, where she thoughtfully comments on a variety of things. Well worth checking out.

I should also add that Julie is an admirer of Carole Lombard (and anyone who admires Carole is a friend of mine!), as I recently noted in my blog: http://community.livejournal.com/carole_and_co/188038.html
