The Explanation
(for those who require one)

And, of course, that is what all of this is -- all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs -- that song, endlesly reincarnated -- born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 -- same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."

That's the most beautiful building I've ever seen!

Rehoboth sounds like some demon from the lower circles of Hell.

But Delaware is close enough.

Joe Biden's family used to vacation at Rehoboth Beach, which billed itself as "The Nation's Summer Capital."

This motel is still in business and recognizable, though it's gotten a face lift and a new wing, and doesn't have quite the same colorful charm.

Hah! My family used to stay there for two weeks every summer, back in the early 70's. I'd go down the beach, meet up with the other proto-teens, play volleyball all day and then eat pizza at Grotto's, then try to find something to do after dinner that didn't include going back to the hotel and the 'rents.

Good times, good times.

Mighty big for a motel.

When does a motel become a hotel?

When it has room service?
