The Explanation
(for those who require one)

And, of course, that is what all of this is -- all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs -- that song, endlesly reincarnated -- born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 -- same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."

I came across this blog through this photo on Tumblr. Being a big fan of the Merry-Go-Round, I had to investigate.

Your blog is very interesting!

Thanks for the heads up on Emitt, one of those guys I was always aware of, and yet never owned any records by him.

Nearly everything by him is out of print at the moment, although I did find a great Merry-Go-Round compilation on Rev-Ola at Amazon.co.uk for eight pounds, and American Dream is still available for slightly outlandish prices. Too bad the release of Dunhill titles was so scattershot in Canada...

Great shot of Emmit...in a suit, no less! He projects an image here quite distinct from the DIY stylings of his solo outings, the first two of which are among my favorite pop records.

If the bloggers herein will allow me a tip-off, some of that precious music can be had at the incomparable blog "Never Get Out of the Boat". That having been said, please support recording artists (yadda yadda)...
