By all accounts he was considered a gay icon even though he didn't "officially" reveal his sexuality until he did his one-man show. A TV executive reportedly told him once that "they don't let queers on television.”

RIP Charles Nelson Reilly...a totally naturally funny guy.
He recently made a film about his life, mixing his one-man show with clips and so on. The trailer (on YouTube) is hilarious.
He was possibly the best guest on a talk show ever.
I've always wondered if he was considered a gay icon in his heyday? His sexual orientation certainly wasn't a secret in the industry.
Thanks to CNR, Paul Lynde and Wayne Flowers & Madame, I had an inkling from a very young age that some people were a bit, shall we say, different.
