Are you certain that Cat on the end is Stevens?
I'd say 90% certain. It was taken at Bowie's 1973 'Last Supper' party at the Cafe Royal in London . . . when he was putting Ziggy Stardust out to pasture . . . and some Googling has convinced me that that is indeed Yusef Islam. Now, a question for thee: Are you the same Devin who authors the blog Pop With a Shotgun? If so, I tip my hat to you not only for your fine taste (I'm sure you'll know what I mean), but also for the rather extreme quality of your blog production, which renders me cheerfully envious (this guy wrote about the Kael/Macdonald/Simon recording I posted here far far better than I did, folks). I only wish you allowed comments on your blog, but that's a minor complaint. You are hereby saluted!
Looks like Cat to me too. Makes me want to dig out my 7" of Lulu singing The Man Who Sold The World, produced by Bowie and backed up by The Spiders From Mars.Sure was a bad hair decade though.
The guy on the far right is not Cat Stevens. But ringo's sure sportin' a doo! Here's a link to a 1973 picture of Cat. http://www.photofeatures.com/catstevens/images/prevs/s04011a.jpg
Tom -- 1) I agree with the other Devin that that's not Cat on the end, though I can't say who it is; and 2) this is the Devin who linked to your stuff a time or two way back when. Many thanks for your kind words (and yes, I do know what you mean in regard to my taste, and it hasn't changed). Just sorry it took me four years to see this comment! Best, Devin. (P.S. I did post a comment on one of your pics--a shot of Henry Fonda reading a script with "SEX" in bigger letters on it.)
It's not Cat Stevens. It's Carmine Appice, who was playing with Jeff Beck in Beck, Bogert and Appice. He would have been there to watch Beck play on Bowie's farewell concert before the party.
I could be convinced that it's not Cat Stevens, but I can't say it matches up with any photos of Carmine Appice that I'v ever seen.
No, that is neither Cat Stevens, nor Carmine Appice (who is a friend of mine for many years). My guess is that it is Edgar Broughton, of the Edgar Broughton Band. http://www.rockzirkus.de/bunt/joint70/edgar_j.jpg
